HANDS DOWN THE BEST BOOK I’VE READ IN THE PAST YEAR - ‘Everything I know about Love’ by Dolly Alderton

Uncharacteristically of me, I’m now writing my third book review in three days.

This book however, is my firm favourite of the year. So much so that I’ve stayed in for five hours straight to finish it, that is “Everything I know about love”  by Dolly Alderton.

This book is a holy grail for twenty-somethings as Dolly masterfully tells of her loves, losses and friendships that make up her twenties. Her writing style is that of Bridget Jones, with none of the self pity or loathing, only lessons learnt whilst growing and having fun  through life. It’s funny, touching, honest and life affirming.

It is a book that will now be a firm favourite on my book shelf, and one that I will be recommending to every girl-friend.

Hello, Tonight I want to write whilst I'm still feeling pretty raw. Why it’s ok to feel depressed after a chronic illness and why it doesn’t make you a bad person, just a normal one.

23 rd March 2018 If you’re reading this and you have a chronic illness, firstly I want to say, you’re really strong. This is not only through the sheer symptoms that having an illness can encapsulate, but also the unnecessary evil of the ignorance that surrounds it. I want to say that this won’t always be the case, no matter how fed up you are of being misunderstood. For me for example, my Nana has my chronic illness and my Mum also has an autoimmune condition, yet I am the only female to be properly treated for Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome – how scary is that in 2019? VE - 75 years on

Yesterday was quite something wasn’t it? It was the only day I can remember where literally everybody seemed to gather together to celebrate the same cause (albeit indoors). With the exception of the Olympics, the World Cup and other sporting events, I can’t remember a day in the historical calendar being so well commemorated. The warm weather was perfect for the trestle-tabled picnics that lined gardens, as Union Jack bunting flapped proudly in the breeze. It’s 75 years since unconditional peace was declared, marking the end of the Second World War and it really did feel a special day. There are so many videos from May 1945, where soldiers are seen kissing girls in fountains, massive tables are joined to fill the street and everyone is beaming at the new feeling of freedom and of peace.
