(Controversial opinion) But Matt Healy has pulled it out of the bag

I haven’t wrote a review for music in months but today, dear friends, I’ll do just that.
I’ll attempt to delve headfirst into the single “It’s not living (if it’s not with you)” from the 1975’s latest one of two studio albums “A brief enquiry into online relationships”.

Released on the 30th November this year, the album was much anticipated and received sweepingly mixed reviews. The second studio album, “Notes on a conditional form”, is set to be released next year and until then, I can say I’m happy with what we’ve been given.

Living as a ‘Millenial’ and modern politics are just some of the topics sandwiched into the tracks, some complete with edgy and imaginative music videos. Although somewhat Taylor Swift-esque in the ‘Delicate’ video, the video for “It’s not living (if it’s not with you)” shows Healy living a life in which everything goes bad, weird or dangerous, yet he is the only one seeing it.

Famed for writing songs that are raw in their portrayal of emotion, mental health struggles and the lows of hedonistic life;  this single is no different.

Although perhaps a little more romantic? Instead of physical love, the idea of the world stopping turning without your loved one is a timeless concept, but a more mature topic for the band.

I love it and I actually love Matt Healy, I feel he’s honest and provides a new synth pop for millennials in a way no other band did in the same way before. Hats off to The 1975.
