A glorious weekend

Hello,  How are you doing today? I hope anyone reading this is really well and perhaps curled up somewhere with a book... I have a cup of chamomile tea in hand and a wooly jumper on whilst writing this as it definitely has gone a bit cooler recently. The warm sunny days a few days ago are very much a welcome surprise as we creep closer into May. May is a month I feel very excited about. Mainly because it is the month my Jack turns 25! But also because with it brings the promise of warmer days, and hopefully slowly towards restrictions ending.  I feel prompted to write about this weekend as slowly but surely it has begun to feel ever-so-slightly more 'normal' and I think it's nice to be able to recognise this in the present and look back on these trips in days to come.  I feel very thankful that this weekend has involved seeing my parents, it was nice to be able to see each other outside more casually. On Saturday we went to a farmer's market and it was wonderful to ...

5 Reasons To Smile This Week

Hi, Hope whoever is reading this is having a lovely week. The sun has popped up this week bringing with it warm days to hang the fresh washing, eat outside and generally feel better. I thought as we have our 'road map' out of Lockdown slowly but surely making life feel more normal, that I would document five reasons to smile this week. I think it's all the little things that add up to big things and if you don't take the time to appreciate them, they can go unnoticed. 1.  Swimming - I love swimming more than literally anything else apart from my partner, family and friends and so to be able to get back in the water this week was amazing. Jack and I booked a 'pod' as we are in the same household and that equated to an 8th of the pool overall. For some reason I envisioned this being a small section with barely any room for front-crawling, but an 8th of the pool is really spacious and the hour slot we had was plenty of time to get some lengths in (or rather many h...

A long overdue catch-up

Hi,  How is everyone? It feels ages since I last wrote here, in fact I just checked and realised I last checked in in May last year... So much has changed for so many since then. Countless numbers of people have been lost to such an awful disease, and my thoughts go out to everyone affected. This year has been a blur; news has felt bleak, vaccinations have started to be administered, daily updates at one point shaped our lives, we all became so used to working in the same place as we live, TV shows like Normal People and Bridgeton trended for weeks, daily walks with our households took on the a whole new meaning and sense of purpose. So much has been lost and so many who have been on the front line caring for those we love at their hardest times deserve medals. At the same time many of us have felt blessed for the small things, to feel the love of family and friends - albeit from afar - and the simplicity of getting fresh air.  I feel proud that as a world we have all un...

VE - 75 years on

Yesterday was quite something wasn’t it? It was the only day I can remember where literally everybody seemed to gather together to celebrate the same cause (albeit indoors). With the exception of the Olympics, the World Cup and other sporting events, I can’t remember a day in the historical calendar being so well commemorated. The warm weather was perfect for the trestle-tabled picnics that lined gardens, as Union Jack bunting flapped proudly in the breeze. It’s 75 years since unconditional peace was declared, marking the end of the Second World War and it really did feel a special day. There are so many videos from May 1945, where soldiers are seen kissing girls in fountains, massive tables are joined to fill the street and everyone is beaming at the new feeling of freedom and of peace. Never in my life-time have I seen a commemoration of VE Day quite like yesterday. We have always paid respects in our thoughts and hearts for all of those amazing men and women whom lost their ...

A day in the life in “Lockdown” and a book review 📚

Hiya, I hope, as ever, this post finds you really well and maybe even enjoying the lovely sunshine today. Whilst the world is a bit crazy at the moment, at least the sun is shining and the birds are singing. It makes you feel at least some things are normal (though we are in England, is sun normal?) I thought it may be nice to document my day today, for anyone who is THAT bored and also for future me. I’ve realised how I love blogging more than any other sharing on social media because unlike photos it gives me an insight to my thoughts and ideas at the time, and I think that’s pretty cool to look back on. It’s also really calming to write and I do recommend it to anyone wishing to write a diary but doesn’t have the stamina to write daily. You could write it just for yourself and never share it anywhere. Give it a go :) So today started early for me, I woke up actually really refreshed for a change at 7.30am after falling asleep at 9.45pm last night. Normally I’m a getting to sle...

Making shampoo with herbs, getting back into card making and dusting off my camera

Hello, Hope everyone who reads this is doing really really well and is healthy and happy. I just felt inspired to write today, as we’re about to come out of week five of social distancing and week four of lockdown in the U.K. I feel so so lucky to be safe at home, whilst many risk their lives at work looking after the very ill in hospitals, the only thing I have to worry about is how to keep busy which is the easiest job of all really. I think there’s so many things you could do each day, that you don’t even think about and so many of us probably have these items just sitting around waiting to be used. In the first two weeks I decided to read up on medicinal herbs and how they can be used in beauty purposes. Balms, cleansers, shampoos, oils and scrubs can all be made naturally with base oils, essential oils, honey, and flowers. I’ve really come to appreciate the healing properties of rose, marigold, chamomile, lemon balm and rosemary especially - I recommend Rosemary Gladstar’s...

Ways to stay positive during ‘social distancing’ 😊

Hiya, The world is such a crazy place at the moment and my heart goes out to all the people fighting the horrible coronavirus. My heart especially goes out to all the wonderful doctors/nurses/caregivers looking after the ill, and to all the scientists working hard at finding a vaccination. From the people working in shops to ensure people can still get the essentials, the the Police and Fire Departments that still have to look after our country as usual, people really are heroes. In our street a WhatsApp group has been set up to make sure the vulnerable or those unable to get out are helped and for those that still need to go to work, that they’re updated. In the midst of a lot of worry, there is a lot of love being shown. Whilst it is absolutely essential to self isolate for the sake of others and prevent further strain on the NHS, for those that are now having to self isolate as many of us are, it can be a boring time. With the stress of going on in the world outside, it can be...
